This is the web site for the ‘Brunnel Way’ project, to make use of the dis-used Brixham Railway as an eco-route.
The project is called the Brunnel way, because the line was part of the GWR broad gauge line. But in main because of the Brunnel way of thinking.
We have two road islands in Torquay, Brixham and Churston. There is no backbone that joins them up, except by limited car access. This problem was resolved a generation before, the Brixham Railway line.
Plan
1) Protection of heritage
2) Giving purpose to heritage
3) Community Project
4) Alternative use of agricultural land.
5) Funding for park, bike and walk.
6) Revenue generated to support the Heritage Centre.

Make it happen
1) We need expertise in heritage listing.
2) We need volunteers for the clearing process.
3) We need people to vote for the project.

The current state of the railway line between the main Churston to Brixham line is generally overgrown, with some of the bridges clogged and all the line full of weeds. All that is required is a community project to clear and remove the bracken. The major work then required would be to remove the blockages under tunnel bridges. The major project would be to re-instate the missing Bridge. This could be a temporary arrangement, in the short term, so the whole line is ‘walk able’.

What would we have then, an eco-route, clear of traffic and reducing the need to use your car. We have interest in a park and xxxx, and use of a bike hiring scheme that could raise future revenue for other heritage projects.
